Cookie Walk and Christmas Bazaar at the St Andrew Church Hall at our Metropolia Center in South Bound Brook, NJ
The Ukrainian Orthodox League Chapters of Holy Ascension Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Maplewood, New Jersey kicked off the Holiday Season by hosting a Cookie Walk and Christmas Bazaar at the St Andrew Church Hall at our Metropolia Center in South Bound Brook, NJ on Saturday, December 6, 2014.
The UOL members baked dozens and dozens of various homemade Christmas cookie choices, which were all a big hit. “Kutya Kits” which included pre-measured organic Einkorn wheat, poppyseed and a recipe card were also available for purchase. Several craft and gift vendors participated in the Bazaar while additional UOL members staffed the “Ukrainian Kitchen” offering homemade “Baba’s Borshch”, varenyky and holubtsi to eat in or take out.
We were blessed with a visit by our hierarchs, His Eminence Metropolitan Antony and His Grace, Bishop Daniel, who stopped by for a quick lunch and to sample some of the homemade cookies. Along with a good response from the local community, we were thankful for visits from our friends from our sister parishes in Carteret, Irvington, South Bound Brook and South Plainfield and the many members of our parish family in Maplewood whose attendance made this event a success.
We were especially pleased that our young adult and junior UOL members assumed the lead roles in this project and that working together, side-by-side, we continue to grow in strength as a parish family.
